My Cartooning Story

I've been drawing cartoons since I was a kid growing up in Australia. I've always been pretty handy with a pencil or an ink pen.

I remember one summer holiday with my grandparents, when I was around seven years old. My grandmother would play a drawing game with my friend, Peter, and I to keep us out of trouble.

She gave us random things to draw from our memory, such as a couch, a street lamp. or animals. I was always good at coming up with a playful cartoon style drawing straight out of my imagination.

Later on in high school, our music teacher had us illustrate by listening to well-known pieces of music. I found that I had a natural ability for illustrating using markers or colored pencils. This was one of my favorite classes. Even though I didn't learn to play a musical instrument, it birthed my creative illustration gift.

In my 30s, I directed three month Schools of Cartooning and Animation at a university in Hawaii. Through the years I have done caricatures at events, festivals, and parties. I also created a comic strip called "In the Burrow" for a local newspaper in North Carolina about a groundhog named Molasses. I've also cartooned for a children's book that my wife and I created together.
